A weekend in Wivenhoe

Come and explore historic Wivenhoe...

The Flag is very lucky to be based in the beautiful town of Wivenhoe. Whether you’re visiting with the whole family or as a couple, there is so much to explore locally.

Just outside of the historic city of Colchester, Wivenhoe is a small riverside town with a history of fishing and boat building. These days Wivenhoe is known for its community of creatives, and is also home to the University of Essex, set within Wivenhoe Park and famously painted by John Constable.

One of the most popular walks in Colchester is the Wivenhoe Trail, following the River Colne from Colchester's historic Hythe port, along its banks towards the Wivenhoe Quayside. Wivenhoe is also just a short drive or train journey from several coastal towns such as Brightlingsea, Frinton on Sea and Clacton on Sea.

After a busy day of exploring, head back to The Flag Wivenhoe for a delicious meal and a stay in one of our ten, stylish rooms.

We hope to see you very soon!
